From the 2006 World Cup to today:
20 Years of ROKA Containers at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin
Why quality pays off in the long run
Anyone investing in the professional event and catering industry usually faces a fundamental decision: Should they opt for the supposedly inexpensive budget solution, or invest in premium quality? Given the high upfront costs, it’s tempting to go for the cheaper alternative. But buying cheap often means buying twice—especially in the demanding environment of stadium operations.
A perfect example of how high-quality materials and craftsmanship not only pay off in the long run but are actually the most cost-effective choice of all is currently celebrating a major anniversary:
Our sales containers for Aramark® at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin have been in continuous use for exactly 20 years.
The ultimate test: “Still on Fire” since the 2006 World Cup on home soil
A Look Back at the 2006 "Summer Fairy Tale": The historic Olympic Stadium in Berlin was completely renovated and modernized for the World Cup held there at the time. As part of this renovation, we were commissioned by the stadium caterer Aramark to develop several food and beverage service containers, which were positioned around the stadium.
Today, a full 20 Bundesliga seasons, countless concerts, and millions of hungry and thirsty fans later, these containers are still running smoothly.
A look back on 20 years: Aside from replacing standard wear parts, the sales units have required no maintenance over the years. They still work and perform just as well as they did on day one.
The challenge back then: Preservation regulations require effective camouflage
Why high-quality construction pays off in the end
When huge crowds of customers need to be served in a very short time during halftime breaks, every second counts. No caterer can afford downtime caused by substandard equipment. These are the moments when investing in quality and professionalism pays off.
Another factor is the unit’s durability. Inexpensive units often show signs of wear and tear due to weather and construction-related factors more quickly. As a result, they no longer meet performance and aesthetic requirements and end up being replaced sooner than expected.
Bottom line: Trends come and go. Quality lasts.
On closer inspection, a high purchase price is not an expense, but rather an investment in the future. The 20th anniversary of our containers at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin demonstrates that those who prioritize uncompromising quality in materials and workmanship ensure predictability and a return on investment for decades to come.
Market trends come and go. But quality work stands the test of time. Back then during the 2006 World Cup, today for our anniversary, and well into the future.
Another project for the 2006 World Cup was an entire fleet of Roadrunners for Coca-Cola®. These vehicles are still on the road today.
